Exploring Isla Gigantes and its Nearby Islands for the First Time

The Islas de Gigantes (Islands of Giants) or simply the Gigantes Islands is located in the north eastern part of Iloilo, Philippines. From the city, it will take about 5 hours in order to get to the island. Upon reaching the Gigantes Islands, you will witness the spectacular beauty of nature. The beach is sparkling blue, the sand is powdery white, and the mountains are lush green. But what are the top attractions and activities you can enjoy here? Island Hopping. The Gigantes Islands is heaven on earth. It is filled with beautiful views in all angles. So if you have time, don’t miss the island hopping experience including the Pawikan Cave, Antonia Beach, Bantigue Island, Tangke Island, and Cabugao Gamay Island.

Lounge on the beach. With powdery white sand beaches in south and north of Gigantes, you can surely relax under the sun. There are also sandbars you can enjoy such as those in Bantigue, Antonia, and Cabugao Gamay Island. All of the beaches are perfect for swimming and other water activities like canoeing and snorkeling.

Cave tours. The islands in Gigantes offer several caves that you can visit while island hopping. These stunning cliffs and rock formations are truly a sight to behold like the Pawikan Cave and Bakwitan Cave. The legends of each cave may give you goosebumps, but once you enter them, you will be amazed by the impressive and spacious caverns.

Check out the ancient lighthouse. If you have a thing on lighthouses, the Ruins of Spanish Colonial Lighthouse is not to be missed. This is located north shore of the island of Gigante Norte. The view from the top of this old lighthouse will give you a dramatic scene of the ocean.

Rock climbing. If you want an extreme adventure where you can work on your muscles, you can go rock climbing at the rocky trail of Gigantes Sur. The cliffs are made of limestone and locals refer to it as the Boulevard. At the top of the cliff, you can enjoy a picturesque view of the Gigantes Islands as well as the Visayan offshore.

Food trip. Of course, you can also experience fresh seafood banquet while exploring the islands. There are crabs, shrimps, lobsters, squids, and plenty of fishes to choose from. But the best part is that they are cheap here so you can eat anything you want without spending too much. Imagine, the scallops are available for only one peso per piece (with minimum order of 100 pesos).

Tangke Lagoon. In Gigantes Sur, you’ll find the famous Tangke Lagoon where you can enjoy saltwater lake and a view of steep cliffs surrounding the enchanting place. Just a tip, visit the lagoon during summer because in months when waves are strong, no one is allowed to enter Tangke.
